Christmas 2011

Ryan already knows what he (ha, I) am buying me for Christmas 2011. It is my dream camera, the Canon 5d mark II. BUT it would be even better to win it on this website!

http://www.haveanepiphanie.com/home/2010/2/28/epiphanie-give-away.html

And now one of epiphanie's bags is on my wishlist too!

Friday, October 16

I've had a birthday, shout hooray!

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes and especially to Ryan for his lovely post. I had a great birthday yesterday! There really weren't very many things that made it different than the average Thursday, but it was nice. We went to the gym and then preschool and then pretty much just hung out. Kate kept making me birthday cards and giving me "birthday surprises" from her toys. For lunch I made them a funny Halloween lunch and then in the afternoon we made caramel apples for my birthday treat. I figured they would be a little better for my diet then some kind of cake. When I told Kate we were making caramel apples she said, "I want birthday cake." I told her I wanted caramel apples and she said "I want caramel apples and birthday cake!" (And I want the metabolism of a 3 year old.) If anyone out there knows the secret to non-dripping caramel apples, let me know!
In the afternoon my friend Melissa brought me over a present that just really made my day! It was some of her etsy-famous kitchen towels and I am so excited about them! If you are interested, she donated some things to a charity auction here. I just wish my kitchen was cuter to match these cute cute towels!
Anyways, around 7:00 Ryan came home and helped me put the kids to bed. He brought me home some yummy strawberrry frozen yogurt too. He's a good, busy husband! He does have the weekend off though so we'll do some birthday partying!
Here are some pictures from the day! Happy Birthday to me!

Look who's 27 today!!!

That's right, it's time for Ryan's annual post on the blog! Who couldn't love a face like this??
Happy Birthday Kristen!!

So since I will be long gone before you wake up, you can go ahead and celebrate by waking up and getting your kids and yourself ready for the day by yourself, getting your own breakfast, and then going to your gym on time by yourself.

Then you can make sure you get to pre-school on time with both kids by yourself.

Then you can make sure that all your motherly and wifely duties are in line for the day as usual.

Oh, and since I probably won't be home until 7 or so you may as well make your own birthday dinner and dessert.

And since our kids go to bed at around 7, you should probably put them to bed by yourself before I get home too.

About the time everything is all done I should probably be walking in the door. Sound good?

Sheesh, what a lame-o husband eh?

So I guess maybe we should really celebrate your birthday on Saturday?!?! Sounds good to me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRISTEN, I SURE LOVE YOU!!!

I'm usually the one holding the camera so I don't make it onto my blog very often, but here I am in my new, darker than expected hair color! I was really not in a happy place last night after I did it, but I'm growing to like it. And actually, now that I'm looking at these pictures, I think I finally look like I fit into my family! (Sorry Jen, you're the odd man out!) So I guess I can handle it for 28 shampoos.

Happy Mother's Day!

Time for some late blogging catch up....

I had a fun Mother's Day! It was great to be in Tucson with my mom, who is the best mom in the whole world. I love you Mom!

Kate came home from nursery with this cute little box. The lesson was about sharing and her cute teacher had made these for the children.

Inside was this yummy surprise for us to shareI love being a mom so much! I am loving my kids at these ages. Kate is so fun and yet is getting so big! I can't believe all the things she says and does and knows! Sawyer is equally as fun, teaching me what it means to have a boy. Luckily he is a sweet and irresistible terror.
I am the luckiest mom in the world!

Friday, April 3

As requested

It was hard to get a picture of myself....that is why I have no head. But Kate thought it was the funnest game ever to watch me hit the camera button, walk fast to my spot and strike a pose.

In other news, there was a big baby shower today and I made some yummy cupcakes. I really like baking and frosting. I thought they were pretty cute...and way too yummy...and I forgot to take a picture of them on my new cupcake stand! Bummer! So this is all you get to see of my cupcakes...She liked them too...

Goodbye Conan

I know I'm a little late, but I just watched the last episode of Conan that I had DVRed. I haven't always regularly watched Conan, but I have always thought he was hilarious when I did. He is my favorite and I might have had a semi crush on him at one part of my life.
When it comes to my New York love and dreams of being there, a lot of what I love and imagine comes from tv and movies. Conan is part of that New York love. There was a lot I wasn't able to do on my short New York trip last December, and one of those things was seeing Conan...although I was hoping to have him walk past me on the street Michael Scott style. Only hopefully I would recognize him.
I knew that Jay Leno was leaving the Tonight show and I knew that Conan was taking over, but I had no idea that meant he was leaving New York until just a few weeks ago.
I am sad.

Friday, January 30

can I get a *what what*

guess who has lost 10 lbs!

I've got my eye on the prize!! (I'm already spending the money in my head!)

Monday, January 5

my new year's resolution...

win a month's free rent!

so my apartment management company is doing a "Biggest Loser Competition" where you put $20 in and the person who loses the most weight wins a month of free rent. Then the money pot is split between the top 3 winners 75, 20, 5%.

like most people, I was planning on making a new year's resolution to lose weight anyway. And I was really excited to have a little incentive. I think I may even have cheated a little by gaining 10 lbs over Christmas!

So...don't hesitate to ask me how my resolution is going...and if you get a guilty look from me, don't feel bad! I need it! And if you see me at a ward activity or playgroup involving sweets...STOP ME!! I'm on a diet!

Ami's tag

As I sit and wait for something exciting to happen with this hurricane, I noticed I was tagged on my friend Ami's blog. She made this up herself and I think it is very Ami.

Divulging Tag!

1. Briefly describe something stupid that you've done: (Ami, I totally do not remember the story you told!) I do so many stupid things all the time and then think about them later and shudder. let's see....I feel like I've told this one already. Once upon a time I went to Tulsa with some friends to see Ami in the All State Orchestra because I had a major crush on a guy with a big nose. I think it was Miriam and Jen and Jenny...maybe? I don't remember. Anyways, we were trying to make our way on foot to a mexican restaurant from the hotel Ami was staying at and we had no idea where we were going. I think we asked a few people before we found this lady who said "Wait one minute and I'll take you. Let me go get my van." So she pulls up in her scary astro van (seriously, very scary) and we all kinda look at each other and say "ummm...okay" and we all pile in. Seriously, doesn't that sound like the makings of a Dateline murder mystery?!?! She pulls into a dark alley....life flashing before my eyes.....and then ends up at the mexican restaurant. I guess she really was just a nice lady with a scary astro van but seriously....where were our brains?!?!

2. Name something brilliant that you've done lately: I brilliantly had my friend Melissa come over and show me how to sew the cutest stuffed owl ever. (Hilary, you are going to be so jealous when you see it! someday I'll finish it and post it.) She brilliantly came up with the idea and pattern herself....I just brilliantly copied. You should see the feet, they are SOOO cute!

3. Write a paragraph out of your journal from five or ten or fifteen years ago, closest to today's date. Feel free to change names to protect your dignity: When we were unpacking books we had to decide which would make the cut and have a place on our one bookshelf....needless to say, my high school journals didn't make it. which is unfortunate because I filled the pages with silly stuff every night in my high school career. I'm sure I wouldn't have had a hard time finding something hilarious and it would have been fun reading down memory lane. so I only have my current journal and my online journal. here is a look back to about a year ago and here is a journal entry from September 17, 2006: "I love fall and I miss it here in Tucson! The days are turning lovely and the nights are really cool, but college football is starting and I see all the sweatshirt wearing fans and it just feels like it should be fall....but it doesn't look or feel like it! I miss sweaters and changing leaves and that smell thats in the air. And I don't think I want Kate to grow up not knowing about what fall really feels like." ....I think I've totally forgotten what fall feels like after 3 years in Tucson and now Houston!

4. What is something you love about yourself (don't worry, no one will think you're bragging): I love how much I love to go to the gym. I don't have a lot of healthy habits, and really this isn't about health to me. It is my happiness and my feel good and my fun and my break...and its good for me too! Now if only I could stop loving cookies so much....

5. Name a useless talent that you have: Playing the string bass. Okay, its only currently useless because I don't strive to find a use for it.

6. Tell a short experience that makes you laugh: Today Kate had her first experience with a bar of soap! she was in our bath instead of her own so I gave it to her and it immediately slipped out of her hand. I surpressed giggles for forever as she chased it all around the tub and finally she said to herself, her head still down "this is hard to pick up!" Kate makes me laugh every day!!

7. Tag whomever, if you want: I tag EVERYONE!! Do it or else you're not my friend. just kidding. But really, do it!! Its really fun!

Favorite past time with your kids? cuddling

Advice for a new mom: Just have fun!

When was the last time your kids said "I love you"? unless "beans" means "I love you"....we haven't gotten that far yet!!

when I grow up....

this is a random thought I had last night but I have been thinking about it all day. as I was looking through all the blogs that I check on a regular basis, I was hit with how different everyone's lives are. there are so many people I know doing so many different things. and then I started thinking about all the things that I've wanted to do in my life "when I grow up." in high school I wanted to be a professional wakeboarder. I also have fell in love with pottery and wanted my own wheel and kiln in my house. I've always wanted to be a professional cake decorator like my grandma douce. when I went to college I had a strong desire to move to a big city like boston or new york and go to art museums and enjoy living in the city. I've gotten into sewing and would love to be good at quilting and want to own a big huge quilting machine someday. in college I got into oil painting and I wish I could have taken more classes. I would LOVE to be a better photographer. I still want to be an aerobics instructor and would like to stay a knowledgeable dental hygienist. and oh how I wish I had more time to play my bass. speaking of instruments, I think I could have totally rocked the drums and when sawyer gets his first drum set, we'll have to take turns. but I've also always wanted to be a mom....and thats where I am now. unfortunately, at this point, there isn't much time for anything else. so I will continue to sit here unshowered and with spit up on my shirt....three times over...and enjoy reading other people's blogs about all their talents and adventures and then find the awesome things in my life to post and look forward to all the things I'll do when I grow up.

exercise creates endorphins...

...endorphins make you happy. happy people just don't kill their husbands. they just don't!

(name the movie!)

ryan went back to work on sunday so I've been on my own the past few days. but I've utilized my husband and my brother when needed! yesterday morning ryan got home from work and I got to go to the gym! oh, it makes me so happy! and I am pleasantly sore this morning. last night I used devin as a baby holder/put to sleep-er while I put kate to sleep. it was adorable when I came down and saw sawyer sleeping on devin's shoulder...but I was too tired to get a camera! so anyways, all in all we're doing well, I have a little help, and my mom comes home tomorrow! (with dani!) wahoo!

and to entertain you visually, here are my cute kiddos ready for church this past sunday. sawyer looked adorable in his outfit from grammie....and he liked it so much that he pooped all over it in sunday school.

oh, they are fun!

we've also tried our hand at...and given up on...potty training in the past couple of days. she loves wearing panties and talking about going on the potty (she likes to talk about making it "yellow") and talking about the candy she will get if she does make it yellow and sits on the potty for long stretches of time reading books and just looking really cute:

but alas, no pee pee or poo poo in the potty. it amazes me how we can sit on the potty reading books for over a half our and then we stand up, pull up the panties and within minutes she has peed on the floor. the last time she did it we decided to give up for a while and we put the diaper back on...and then a little while later we noticed she was pooping. we ran to the toilet but it was too late. but we decided to sit and try anyway. I got her a pile of books and went about cleaning the kitchen and then I heard her say "more!" she had a tiny bit of poo poo in the potty! boy, was she excited! (mroe about the candy than anything!) but its definately a step in the right direction!

ryan and I also used some of our time off to make a new headboard. isn't it nice? we've been going without for so long! we're both pretty proud of our handiness!

well, thats it! #200! a little bit of everything! hope you enjoyed it.

I am now retired

today was my official last day of work!! hooray!! actually, I am leaving with some mixed emotions. as a 9 months pregnant girl I am overjoyed to be done working and ready to have this baby! at the same time, I really do enjoy what I do (did...ha!) and I'm not exaggerating when I say I am leaving the best office anyone could ever work for. today they brought a chocolate cake and a balloon and I felt very loved. I am defianately going to miss everyone there!!

in other news, here is a recent picture of me and my belly:

I am starting to get really anxious for this baby to come out...and the biggest reason is because I'm feeling the pressure of my mom leaving on may 7th and I would just really like to have the baby asap so she'll be here. its sad to say, but actually the excitement seeing the baby takes 2nd. (a very close 2nd.)

we go to the midwife tomorrow and I'm anxious to see what they say!

new sewing machine!!

a little while ago I was heartbroken when I made a user error and broke my sewing/embroidery machine that ryan gave me 2 christmases ago!! so sad! I started looking into new ones and I wanted one a little better than the one I had and I found the one of my dreams!! it was a pretty good deal too because it was refurbished and in really good condition!! ryan now thinks I broke mine on purpose (which isn't true....but I'm not saying I regret it now!!)

now I just need something to embroider!!
