St Patricks Day 2013

Sawyer counted down the days until "leprechaun day" and was so cute with his excitement. We made a trap the night before that the kids decorated with rainbows and some pennies to try and lure a leprechaun....it didn't work but he did find some fun surprises in the morning! We then ate some green pancakes and sausage and then got ready for church. Since Daddy has early morning meetings it means I don't have my Clara wrangler....so I don't have any good pictures of Clara. My mom and dad sent them these cute green things and they were all ready for church. They were a hit! I sure love holdiays with kids, especially when they are this fun!

St Patrick's Day - 2012

As is our tradition, the night before St Patrick's Day we set up a leprechaun trap to try and catch a leprechaun and make him lead us to his gold! I asked my kids what they would do with all the leprechaun gold and they both said, "go to Disney World!" That's about all we talk about around here. Going to Disney World and Grammie's house. So we set the trap and filled it with rainbows that the kids had drawn and a shiny gold crown to try and lure one in. In the morning we woke up to this:

A dusting of shamrocks leading from the front door, straight to our trap!

outside the trap we saw some footprints on one of the rainbows...evidence there had been one inside our house! We decided we would count to three and Sawyer would lift the box and Kate would be ready to catch it before he could run away (because leprechauns are very very fast, of course)

1....2....3....
Sawyer quickly lifted the lid!....Kate was ready to pounce....and no leprechaun! He must have been too fast for our trap! but he did drop some of his gold pieces in his haste!

What a lucky way to start the day!

Then we feasted on shamrock pancakes for breakfast

And then took pictures in our cute St Patrick's Day shirts that Grammie had sent us in the mail!

And, my kid's favorites, the socks! Ever since Kate was little, Grammie has bought her socks from the bargain bins at Target. Her collection has grown so large that she rarely wears white socks. She wears Easter socks, Halloween socks, Christmas socks, Valentine's day socks...year round! Sawyer was jealous and started stealing her socks and he has since acquired some Buzz, Woody and Cars socks. When we got Grammie's package in the mail we saw she had done an awesome job of packing it really tightly into a small flat rate box. On the drive from the post office to home my kids were trying to guess what was in such a small box for them...they guessed socks! And they were right!

Now Clara gets to join in the holiday sock fun!

Our St Patrick's Day Saturday was spent with our Daddy working (a rare Saturday occurrence) so I enjoyed being lazy and having no where that I needed to be. I stayed in my pajama pants and did laundry. I also started sewing Easter dresses! All the while my kids ran around the house playing happily. They sure love to spend time together and it happens way too infrequently. I was in my sewing room and I could hear them having an especially hilarious "potty talk" conversation in which Sawyer was laughing his head off. I hesitated in putting an end to it, it was so adorable. After Daddy got home from work we went out and gave our car a good washing (our dirt road has been a MUDDY road with all the snow melting) and then we enjoyed our hot 58 degree weather by going to a park and playing. When we got home I made homemade pizza and Kate wondered why it wasn't in the shape of a shamrock (what do I look like, a magician?) and then we enjoyed some mint brownie ice cream before heading to bed!

Hope you all had an equally enjoyable St Patrick's Day!

St Patrick's Day 2011

Last night the kids and I set a trap in the hopes of catching him and having him lead us to his pot of gold. After setting the trap Kate asked, "What do we do if we catch one?" Ryan (for some strange reason) responded, "We will cook him and eat him for dinner!" I started to jump in to explain that Leprechauns are not for eating when Kate replied, "No!! That's not healthy!.....maybe for dessert!" Nice.

So here is a picture of our little trap

Kate drew a picture of a rainbow to lure him inWhen they woke up they saw a trail of rainbow jellybeans leading towards the trap
The trap was sprung!
But we when lifted the box, we found that the leprechaun was too quick and he got away. In his haste, he had dropped some of his gold coins and jelly beans! Lucky us!
We then dressed in our green...and BYU (Sawyer is very opinionated on what he wears, but I figured it was appropriate for the start of March Madness. He was wearing green socks though!) And we headed to our swimming lessons.
Sawyer was feeling less than photogenic
After the aquatic center we headed to our second gym (yes, I just joined a different and hopefully better gym!) and I was able to BodyCombat while the kids enjoyed the new play place. Besides nibbling on our leprechaun goodies, we didn't do much else to celebrate the holiday. Kate did draw a picture of a leprechaun (or Leprkon) this afternoon:
Doesn't he look delicious?

Happy St Patrick's Day...Sunday

My mom sent the kids a little St Patrick's day package and in it were these cute little suspenders. Since we probably won't see many people on the actual day, I decided to give them to the kids this morning so they could wear them to church. They were both really excited about it and love the suspenders! Thanks Grammie!

St Patrick's Day 2010

We have had a lot of fun with St Patrick's day this year! It started out with preschool at our house on Tuesday where we learned about rainbows and leprechauns. We made leprechaun hats and ate a fruit rainbow for snack time. I sure thought it was fun!PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Then for FHE the night before (dad wasn't home on Monday) we set up a leprechaun trap, hoping to catch one and catch his pot of gold! Sawyer and Kate both liked testing it out and getting trapped under the rubbermaid box we had set up. The first time I did it he was giggling underneath it so much that it gave us all a good laugh.

When we woke up in the morning we were disappointed to have an empty trap, but the kids were excited to find some of his gold that he had dropped. The leprechauns had also done some mischievous things. The first thing Sawyer did was point on the chair hanging from the ceiling fan and say, "chair!" Then Kate started noticing the messes and the pictures hanging upside down and other little things. Those sure are sneaky little leprechauns!

We were lucky because Daddy was home this morning so he made a yummy breakfast of green waffles, which were enjoyed by all.

Afterward, when we were getting dressed, Kate was excited to find her green clothes but was disappointed she didn't have any green pants. She was afraid she would get pinched. I told her she had more than enough green to avoid being pinched!

Then we headed to the gym and then on to playgroup where one of the moms had come prepared with the makings of a shamrock scavenger hunt to find a pot of gold. The kids had a lot of fun running around and finding the candy at the end! It was an awesome idea!

After we came home and ate lunch, Sawyer went down for a nap (thank heavens! It was his first one since daylight savings time....3 days ago!) and Kate and I got to work making some leprechaun hats for me and Sawyer. We had found out that Chickfila (our favorite place ever!) was giving out a free meal to anyone dressed up like a leprechaun! So we headed over there for dinner with some of our friends and it was delicious and free! They had the placed decked out in green with balloons and green tablecloths and they were giving out samples of green ice cream with green sprinkles. Our lucky day!

I hope your St Patrick's Day was as lucky as ours! Now Easter will be here in no time...I had better get to work!
