2 and 4

My kids are officially 4 and 2 because we had their Dr's appointments today. (Sawyer is having a hard time holding up 2 fingers so he's going with 4 like his sister.) The nice thing about their birthdays being so close together is I can combine the Dr's visit into one!

I had prepped Kate all week for her shots and she kept telling me how brave she was going to be. Then she woke up this morning and told me she wanted to go to the Dr next week instead of today. She would then burst into tears at random times throughout the day. So much for being brave!

We got there and when we were called back Sawyer walked right up to the scale, pointed and said "Ohh!!" The nurse asked him if he wanted to get on and he stepped right up. Kate then followed his perfect example! He was equally excited to get measured for his height and then we headed into the exam room. (Where Kate burst into tears again.)

When the Dr came into the room he said, "Who wants to go first?" to which Sawyer said, "MEEEEE!" I sat him up on the table and he let the Dr check everything out without a fuss. I had some questions about Sawyer and the Dr ended up giving us a referral to an orthopedic guy to look at Sawyer's legs. (He is a bit pigeon toed, and although it makes for the cutest little toddler run ever, I guess we're going to get it checked out!)

When it was Kate's turn, she burst into tears and wouldn't sit on the table until I promised the Dr wasn't the one giving her shots. She was brave through the exam.

Then came the shots. The nurse recommended Kate go first since she was obviously dreading it the most. When I picked Kate up to put her on the table, she latched on to me in the tightness grip I've ever seen (arms around me neck, legs around my waist) and I had to pry her off me. I held her down and she actually tolerated the shots just fine and stopped crying the second we let go and I gave her a pack of fruit snacks. I guess the anticipation was the hardest part!

Then it was Sawyer's turn. He had just witnessed the massive fit his sister had thrown but he let me pick him up and put him on the table and he only whimpered once when the shot went in. Then I put him on the floor, he ripped off his bandaid and handed it to me and then asked for his fruit snack.

After the appointment I rewarded both kids with a water gun from the dollar store which we went home and played with.

Here are the official stats:

Kate at 4
Height: 41 1/4" (75th percentile)
Weight: 33 1/2 lbs (25th percentile)

Sawyer at 2
Height: 35" (60th percentile)
Weight: 28 lbs (50th percentile)

18 month stats

Photobucket

We had the pleasure of going to the Dr again yesterday...between the 2 of them and all their flu shots, it seems like we've been there a lot recently! And you could tell Sawyer remembered because he wasn't happy about anything. But he continues to be strong and healthy and we're happy about that! Here are his 18 month stats:

weight: 25 lb 2 oz (50th percentile)
height: 33" (75th percentile)
head: 19 1/2" (90th percentile)

The Dr asked about what words he is saying and I told him that there really weren't very many and probably I am the only person that would understand what he was saying. He said he wasn't worried because boys go at their own pace and are often times slower. The Dr also let me know he has an ear infection....again! Last time I went to the Dr Sawyer had an ear infection and I had no idea! I think Sawyer thinks that is how his ears are supposed to feel or something because he never rubs them or lets me know that he's hurting. Poor kid. Anyways, despite my lack of mothering skills, they sent him home with me along with a prescription so we can get his ears taken care of.
Well we sure love our Sawyer boy...but you know who loves him even more? MOSQUITOS! Now that it isn't 100 degrees outside and muggy I kinda forget the bug spray sometimes and he always has a ton of bug bites....especially right before we go to the Dr! Well this morning after the gym I wanted to take a picture and we were seriously outside for 5 minutes and check out Sawyer's left eye? Yup, its a bug bite. He must taste pretty good because Kate can come inside with zero and Sawyer has a million.....sigh.

Sawyer is 16 months!

Photobucket
Sawyer's 16 month stats:
24 lbs 9 oz (50th percentile)
21 1/4" (50th percentile)
19" head (75th percentile)

Sawyer's favorites and talents at 16 months:
-doing everything his sister does
-walking and running everywhere
-pulling things out of drawers
-eating
-smiling at the camera
-after his sister gets her hair do in the mornings, he brings me the comb, rubber bands and spray gel and sits on my lap....ready for his hairdo!
-running straight from the bath to his room and cuddling on the floor with his towel
-taking medicine (we've been doing that a lot recently)
-doing the "Sawyer scream". If you haven't heard it, come on over. It happens 200 times an hour.
-not really saying real words except for "mama" and "dada" and an occasional what sounds like "sister" and a "please" or "cheese"
-looking you straight in the eye and "talking" to you in his own words
-If You're Happy and You Know It
-the ABCs....he sings along and the grunts almost sounds like the real thing!
-running to see Daddy when he gets home
-playing in nursery (we've snuck him in a few times already!)
-being tickled on his big tummy, his chubby thighs, and his feet (he giggles when his shoes are being put on!)
-watching Wordworld with his sister
-blankies
-pacifiers at bedtimes....but I'm trying not to give it to him any other time
-riding his bike
-pointing at things
-putting his hand on his cheek and cocking his head to the side. Kate always asks me why he does it and I always tell her I don't know but I love it.
-dumping out all the legos....every single day
-picking up legos when I ask him to
-throwing his diapers in the trash
-talking on my cell phone. He puts his arm straight up in the air so he can balance it between his shoulder and ear.
-singing along with his sister in FHE or when she's pretending she's on a stage
-jumping
-whenever I want him to go somewhere all I have to say is "on your mark...get set....go!" and he's off!
-be Kate's "backpack". On the way to bed, when Ryan is home, Kate and Sawyer ride on his back like a horse. When we first started doing it, we put Kate on first and then Sawyer behind her and had him put his arms around her. She held onto his arms and said, "its like he's my backpack!"
-giving the guy at the gym who greets you at the door a high five. He does it everytime. The other day we went to church and he ran right up to the old man passing out the programs and gave him a big high five. We were a little puzzled until it dawned on me...he was associating him with the gym greeter!
-hitting his sister...I try and tell him "no" and "be soft" but he really shows no signs of understanding me
- we work on phonetic sounds with Kate (like what sound does "s" make?) and sawyer will make the sounds along with Kate
- being the cutest 16 month old boy in the whole world!

big

Today we went to the Dr for one big Kissell check up. The Dr officially declared the kids healthy. Here are their stats:
Sawyer Lane:
22 lbs 4 oz (50th percentile)
30" (50th percentile)
head 18 1/2" (70th percentile)

Sawyer's 1 year old favorites:
-walking in his adorable toddle
-using his walking skills to get into everything
-throwing things
-looking you straight in the eye and telling you a story that only he understands
-raising his hand on command (raise your hand if you love your mommy.....raise your hand if you are cute....raise your hand if you're hungry...)
-eating his sister's chapsticks
-making a gurgling sound as he pretends to drive cars around
-Miss Ethel (his favorite gym mama)
-folding his arms during prayers and grunting and "amen" afterward

Kate Rose:
30 lbs (50th percentile)
36 1/2" (30th percentile)

Kate's 3 year old favorites:
-counting
-pointing out numbers and letters
-playing and having patience with her little brother
-coloring really well between the lines
-pretending to write letters (they usually just look like tiny curly qs)
-pedaling her bike all by herself
-helping me
-singing all the time
-saying really funny things
-whining (not one of my favorites)
-playing at the park

We thought Kate was going to get 1 shot and Sawyer 2 so I got Kate all prepared and then the nurse came in and said she didn't need one after all. She was visibly disappointed so she gave her a band aid anyway. Silly Kate and her love of shots. Sawyer took his 2 shots in the leg and only cried a little. Then we had to take him down to the lab and give a routine blood sample and I had to be the one to hold him down. He didn't cry (just like his big sister back in February) but he did squirm.
Its good to know they are healthy and growing the way they should! Even if I think they're growing just a little too fast...

Sawyer's 9 month stats

Weight: 19 lbs 13 oz - 50%
Height: 29 1/2" - 75%
Head: 18 1/4 - 75%

The Dr was impressed with how much his weight has increased from his last visit! I guess thats what happens when you actually feed your baby!

6 months old!

I realized that I totally forgot Sawyer's birthday on Sunday....so we put on his 6 month shirt yesterday and took some pictures. I need to work on my photography skills...especially with a baby. Or maybe I just need to work on patience. Either way, I was annoyed with all the dog poop around my apartment's grass.

lovely...

Here are the best I got in the 5 minutes I tried

Look at all that hair on his head!

trying so hard to balance...and a little concerned after already falling over a few times

Sun in his eyes

Here are his 6 month stats from our Dr visit yesterday:

Weight: 14 lbs 12 oz (10th percentile)

Height: (50th percentile)

Head: (50th percentile)

Sawyer's favorites at 6 months:

smiling and everyone and everything
laughing at mommy all the time (she is SO funny!)
laughing at his sister...when she isn't right in his face or hitting him "accidently"
"crawling" in a circle
rolling over
talking ("guh" and "ba")
drooling on everything
holding things in his hands and chewing on them
kicking his legs in his bouncy seat and the bathtub

We got the go ahead to feed him some baby foods so we started out with carrots

I don't think he was crazy about it. He liked it okay, but he wasn't in love.

I also talked to the Dr and we decided to start supplementing some formula for my skinny baby. Despite the fact that he is so very happy most of the time, there were some signs of being hungry. I was excited to try it. I thought I would make up a bottle of formula, and once he got a taste he would down it like "where has this been?!?!"....but nope, he took a few chugs and then was done. And so were my hopes that he would then sleep through the night. sigh.

But we'll keep trying!

Sawyer's 5 month stats

5 months and 14 lbs 4 oz!

Right after we got home, we took Sawyer to the checkup for a 5 month weigh-in. Basically I was just wondering if I was starving Sawyer with low milk production like I did with Kate (who was also pretty skinny). But the Dr was very reassuring and said he is just tall which makes him look skinny. He has, however, gone down in the percentiles so I don't really know. All I know is that the only thing he recommended I do is drink a dark beer and take an herbal supplement. He also said that I will just have to keep feeding him frequently, including during the night. nice. But if he is a starving baby, he is one happy starving baby!

Sawyer's favorites are:

- giggling
- smiling huge smiles at anyone he sees
- drooling
- tylenol when his soon-to-be-teeth bumps are hurting
- trying to put rice cereal in interesting places during meals....like the top of his head and his eyes
- his sister.....sometimes

- rolling over onto his tummy in the middle of the night and then calling out to mommy to come and turn him back over....several times a night. (this hopefully has stopped as of last night)
- rolling over, over and over again, while playing on the floor
-his baby einstein play thing
-just being cute!!

Sawyer's 4 month stats

WHAT?!?! 4 months old?!?!
Today we took Sawyer to the Dr and here are his stats:

Weight: 13 lbs 12 oz (40th percentile)
Height: 26 1/2 inches (95th percentile)
Head: 16 3/8 inches (40th percentile)

Sawyer's favorite things now are:

talking REALLY loudly during church
smiling big at anyone
being tickled
mommy clicking her tongue at him
playing with toys in his hands and bringing them to his mouth
going to sleep as soon as he is put in bed....usually
being swaddled
bouncing in his bouncy seat
mommy "eating" his neck
sucking on his hands

He is such a good baby and we feel so lucky to have him in our family! Kate loves to squeeze and hug her brother (notice I didn't put that on Sawyer's list of favorites!) She always says "hey handsome" and "he's cute" all the time (I wonder where she gets that from?!?)

I made him a 4 month onesie and put it on and took only a few pictures before the dr appointment and then thought, I'll just take some more when we get home.....by the time we got home he had really icky spit up all over his shirt, 2 bandaids on his 4 shots and a rather grumpy disposition. to top it all off, I spilled Tylenol on it too. so....there are only these few pictures! I guess you live and you learn!

I call this one his pretty little girl pose

I kept trying to show off his head strength and he kept tipping over and then looking at me like this

it was hard to see his shirt when he kept sucking on his hands

and, I have to tell you, I didn't edit these pictures at all! those are HIS EYES!! I sure think he is a cutie!
