I want to learn!!

Saturday!! Its amazing the new meaning a Saturday has when you have a school girl. So we're going to try and make the most of it and go on a hike today. But this morning I was talking to Ryan about his vacation time he has at the end of the month and Kate overheard me.

K: "Vacation? What vacation?"
me: "Daddy has a week where he doesn't have to go to work. You'll still have school but I think some days we'll let you stay home with us."
K: "NOOO!! I don't want to miss Kindergarten! I want to learn!!"

She sure loves school! And I love my school girl!

roadkill

While driving in the car:

Me: "Oh no!!"
Kate: "What?"
Me: "The car in front of me just ran over a squirrel."
Kate: "....is it a pancake?"

hearts

*FYI, for those of you who are envious of my acorn wreath but are snowed in and/or acornless, I saw that someone had done the same thing with lima beans. Let me know if you try it!*

Kate: "Mom, what do hearts do?"
Me: "They pump blood to your body and help you live."
Kate: "What would happen if you didn't have a heart?"
Me: "Well...you wouldn't be alive anymore because your body needs a heart."
Kate: "Well...what would happen if I gave my heart to Heavenly Father?"

I then realized that we were listening to Kate's new primary CD ("My very own CD" as she calls it) to theme song for the year.

My heart I give to Him
I know that my Savior loves me

I suppressed my giggles and tried to explain exactly what the song was meant. I sure love her and her smart, inquisitive self!

Kate quotes with Papa

Photobucket

(When I was tucking Kate into bed one night with Grammie and Papa here)
Kate: "Are Grammie and Papa going to be here when I wake up?"
Me: "Yes, they're going to stay here for a while."
Kate: "how long?"
Me: (holding up five fingers to count each day) "They will be here Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wenesday, and Thursday."
Kate: "And this day (holding up her thumb) they leave?"
She then started to cry

Kate and Sawyer both got a cough right as my parents got here and Kate was having a hard time going to sleep one night. Papa was putting her back to bed and offered to say a prayer to help her not cough so she would be able to go to sleep. After the prayer she said, "*cough* *cough*....well that didn't work!"

Kate Christmas quotes

K: "Mom, Sawyer pulled the star off my ceiling!"
Me: "That's okay, I'll put it back up later."
K: "But....how will baby Jesus come?"

K: "How come there is no snow?"
Me: "We would have to live somewhere where it is cold all the time for there to be snow."
K: "Like.......Mexico?"

K: "What goes in Wassail?"
Me: "sugar, cloves, cinnamon sticks, orange juice, lemon juice and apple juice."
K: "I don't want shirts in mine."
Me: "What?"
K: "what did you say was in wassail?"
Me: "sugar, cloves...."
K: "I don't want clothes in mine!"

(while driving in the car)
K: "Mom, last year when we were at Grammie's house it was Christmas and I went downstairs and saw Santa and I said "what are you doing here" and he said "I just came to see your tree" and I said "oh" and he said "I want to take a little rest" and so Santa took a little rest."

cracking me up all day long

Kate: "Mom, what does Jesus eat?"
Me: "He ate the same things we do. He ate bread and fish...."
Kate: "Not real fish."
Me: "Yes, he ate fish like fish in the ocean."
Kate: "You mean goldfish crackers."

(Driving down the freeway on a very wet road, tires creating mist and the sky dark)
Kate: "Mom, are we in a cloud?!"

Kate: "Hi. Welcome to the TV show. Everybody clap their hands."

...do I watch too much GSN?

Tuesday, August 25

random Kate quote...

Kate: "Mommy, I can't wait to go to Disneyworld and give Mickey Mouse a hug!"
Me: "Who else will you hug?"
Kate: "All of Mickey Mouse's friends."
Me: "What about some princesses?"
Kate: "Oh yeah, I forgot! I'll hug Belle and Cinderella....but I tink I won't hug Ariel because she'll get me wet."

guck

as we were getting ready for bed tonight

Kate: "can we play a little game?"
mama: "okay, just a little one. and then its time for bed"
Kate: "let's play guck!"
mama (thinking she was just coming up with a silly name to stall bedtime): "what is that?"
Kate: "you need to point at people's heads!"
mama (trying to get Sawyer dressed): "what? I don't know what you mean. I'm getting sawyer dressed, how about you point at people's heads"
Kate (getting off the chair and coming up to us): "guck....guck.....guck.....goose!!!"
she then starts running around everywhere and giggling.

I love when she comes home from nursery with fun new things she's learned!

free ice cream cone day!

Today Ben and Jerry's is having free ice cream cone day! We went after lunch and it was pretty busy. The closest one to us is in Rice village....which probably means nothing to most of you, but to Houstonians it means fun place with lots of stores and not much parking. So we had a fun walk and then some yummy ice cream. Before we even got in the car to go Kate told me she wanted pink ice cream, so she had strawberry. And I had Yellow Brickle Road which was just delicious. I highly recommend it.

At the end I wanted to take a picture of Kate eating her cone and I said "Say ice cream!" she said "Ice cream...cone....without the ice cream!" It was pretty cute.

So hurry on over to your local Ben and Jerry's! They said they're open until 8!

a Coldplay day....

We have accidentally, but happily, had a very yellow day today

Kate picked out one of her favorite new shirts....she calls it her princess shirt. And it just so happens to be yellow.

This afternoon, while Saywer was taking a nap, Kate and I played Pretty Pretty Princess and I asked Kate what color she was going to be. She said, "I'm going to be yellow because I'm awesome."

(she did later switch to pink, though.)
Then for dinner we had corn on the cob....or as Kate called it "corn on the dog" or one time "corn dog on the ob". Its been a while since we had it and she was skeptical at first, but soon found she loved it.

Sawyer did have a little fun today too, although it wasn't yellow related. It has been beautiful here (after a few days of rain, rain and more rain) so we went and blew some of the bubbles the Easter bunny left us. Sawyer hasn't seen bubbles in his life.

*picture this*

Sawyer is standing in front of me and I blew some bubbles towards him and he, at first, looks surprised. Then he starts to giggle. He giggles everytime I blow the bubbles towards him. Then he starts getting out his cute little pointer finger and popping them. All the while he is standing on his cute, chubby legs.

the reason you have to picture it in your head instead of looking at an actual picture is because it is impossible to take a picture and be the bubble blower at the same time. Trust me, I tried it.

Here is one short video that I took that sets the scene but really doesn't compare.

And so there you have it. An accidental but totally fun yellow day.

The hunt

Today in Primary we were wrapping up with Senior singing time, about ready to dismiss, when we could hear this really loud thunder and all of a sudden you could just hear it pouring. We got soaked as we tried to leave church! On the way out to the car, I was holding all of my primary stuff and Kate and I was walking as fast as I could in my heels and then it started raining harder and Kate said, "what...is....happening?"
After we got home and ate lunch and waited for Sawyer to wake up from his nap, the sun decided to poke its shiny head out and the Easter bunny was still able to hide the eggs outside. Kate did have to wear her boots, though. Check out the puddles!

Kate was so funny. For a while she was saying, "holy cow!" but it has changed into "holy mole!" She kept saying it over and over as she darted from one egg to another.

I think she was pretty happy with the loot!I think its so funny how for Kate's first egg hunt we set a couple of eggs out on mom's patio and everyone gathered around as she crawled towards them. Poor Sawyer, his parents thought it was too wet for him so he just watched....and didn't know any different!

Once we got inside and Kate started opening all her eggs, Sawyer sat right by her. Its amazing to me to observe how closely he watches her and then imitates it. He started picking up the eggs and throwing them into the basket. He thought it was a really fun game. For Easter dinner, we went over to Ryan's friend from school's house and had the usual yummy ham and potatoes. I brought dessert and decided to make a Martha Stewart lemon cake.
It was so yummy. But it is the last straw. I am back on my diet tomorrow.

Let's pretend

Kate has been all about pretending lately. All I hear is "I'm pretending that...."

It is quite adorable.

She ran into the kitchen while I was making dinner and she said, "Mama, come see what I made in my room!"

I came in to find this:

"I am pretending it is Lala's birthday."

The other day she told me she was going to visit Lala's grammie. She packed up her backpack with the "necessities" and the next thing I know, her and every baby/animal she owns were sitting on the small couch.

"I am pretending I am on an airplane."

Easter treats

Today we had a really fun Easyer egg hunt playgroup with lots of yummy treats.

On the way home I had this conversation:

Me: "Kate, what do you want for lunch when we get home?"
Kate: "candy."
Me: "You can't have candy for lunch. You need to eat something healthy."
Kate: "I'll just eat this candy and pretend its healthy."

Ah, wouldn't life be grand if it worked that way?!

more kateisms...

Kate's favorite fruit of the moment: Camo-ope

Kate: " That guy has a beard! When I grow up, I will have a beard."
Me: "No, you're a girl. Girls don't have beards. Boys have beards when they grow up."
Kate: "Well, when I'm a boy, I'll have a beard."

Kate (to Sawyer): "Hi Boyeeee"

Me: "Kate, get your shoes on, Daddy is taking us out for ice cream!"
Kate: "Is it my birthday?"

Kate: "I got my flip flops on. I'm going on an airplane. I'm going to Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and then Tucson."
(can you tell where I've been going WAY too much?)

(While riding in the car)
Kate: "Mama, I am so sad. Look at my sad face."
*I turn around to see a fake, bottom lip sticking out, sad face*
Me: "Why are you sad?"
Kate: "I'm sad because I can't talk to Grammie on the computer."

Kate (with her ginormous back pack on her back) : "I'm going to school! Give me a kiss mom and dad!"

Kate: "What time is it?"
Me: "Its 1:00."
Kate: "How old is it?"

Me: "Kate, where are you?"
Kate: "I'm in the family room! I'm at school!"
(I find her drawing letters by herself in the family room)

Kate (while dressing herself): "Mama, is this upside-over?"

After hearing Kate sing the Hokie Pokie in the bathtub
Me: "Kate, did you learn that in nursery?"
Kate: "yes."
Me: "Do you sing really loud in nursery?"
Kate: "no, I sing like this...." *mouth starts to move with nothing coming out*

Kate saying the prayer over dinner: "please bless we will eat this food safely...."

So proud!!

Today I took Kate to the doctor and guess what he had us do!!

Draw 3 vials of blood from this little girl!

And how did she react?

She sat on my lap...she held her tiny little arm up on the armrest...and she sat quietly and watched as the put the rubber band on her arm, stuck her with a needle, and pulled out 3 vials of blood!!!

The phlebotomist was in shock. I was in shock (as my eyes welled with tears of pride). And she was just excited to have a bandaid!

Afterwards I got her a "Mommy's so proud of you" happy meal. As we were waiting for it she said, "You'll have to help me eat it because I don't have an arm."

Then Sawyer was baby babbling next to her in the car, she asked what he was saying, and in a small baby voice I said, "My sister is such a big girl!" and she said, "yeah, he is so proud of me." (She probably heard me say that about a million times after she was done!)

I am so proud of my big girl!

Sunday, February 8

a few I forgot...

Kate: "Jesus and Abinadi made me feel better."

Kate: "No."
Me: "What did you say to Mama?"
Kate: "Nothing...I just said 'ha ha!'"

Kateisms

Me: "Kate, please pick up those toys in your room."
Kate: "Is the bug guy coming?"

*As we do a U-turn*
Kate: "What did we forget?"

Me: "Kate, please back up....(after she doesn't listen)...I can't take your picture unless you back up!"
Kate: "I'm back upping, I'm back upping!"

Kate: "Mama, do you have a ring?"
Me: "Yes, Daddy gave it to me when we got married."
Kate: "I have a ring. Santa Claus gave it to me."

Kate: "I don't have a white chapstick. I'll have to tell Santa Claus."

Kate: "Are we going to Tucson?"
Me: "We'll go in the summer."
Kate: "Oh...I need to make a choo choo chain."

Looking out the window while eating lunch
Kate: "Who is that guy?"
Me: "I don't know, I haven't met him before."
Kate: "He's Mike."

bad guys

Kate was sitting on Papa's lap in Tucson and she said "I want some badguys." Papa, who often has a hard time understanding Kate, was confused and kept asking "what are you saying?" Finally he said "where are they?" and she said "in the fridge." Ryan overheard this whole conversation and exclaimed, "she's saying BUCKEYES!" (the delightful peanut butter/chocolate Christmas treat that is a Townsend family tradition.)

We're watching the Fiesta Bowl. GO BADGUYS!!

Thursday, November 20

are we ready?

Ryan's ready

I'm almost ready

Kate's ready....to not have a stressed out Momma

{me cleaning the bathroom}: "Kate, don't get that rag soaking wet! You're making a big mess!"

{Kate}: "Mommy, may you go away please?"

Doesn't she have nice manners? I've worked hard on that!
