Sawyer's second haircut

Sawyer had his first haircut last November but it was just a little trim around the edges to even things out. Yesterday he had his first official, cut off a bunch, hair falling to the floor, crossing my fingers that his hair will still have curl in it haircut. We went to a friend's house to have it done and Sawyer felt very comfortable and sat still through the whole thing.

long hair

I was straightening my hair for church today and Kate requested the same for her. It makes it look so LONG and she loves it! (I guess no matter what age you are, you always like the hair you don't have the best!) Check out when we did it about this time last year! She is getting so big!
(On a side note, she's getting bigger and, luckily, I got a little smaller than I am that picture. Wow...I had almost forgotten!)

To protect herself from getting her headband stolen, she had to get Sawyer one.

Don't worry, he didn't wear it to church!

Valentine's happiness
After our breakfast fun, Daddy went to school and studied and while we spent the afternoon cleaning up the house. Then Daddy and Mommy were able to have their first date since leaving Tucson, thanks to the Young Women of the ward doing a little fundraising. All day long I pumped Kate up to go to a "valentine's party" at the church with her friends while Mommy and Daddy had a date. She got really into it and I thought she would go no problem...there was a little crying in the beginning, but with the promise of a treat we were able to leave and have a nice date while she did a craft and watched movies and did all sorts of fun things. When we came back to pick them up at about 7:15, we were tempted to leave them the full evening (until 9) because they were doing so well! (We probably should have...darn!)

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's day too!

a Kissell girl change*up

For church on Sunday I woke up and straightened my hair...and then decided Kate and I should match. She was a little intimidated by the straightener but she was thrilled with the results!
Here is the before picture (just out of bed, eating french toast)

and our matchingness
It kind of just pointed out the fact that she really needs a haircut! its a little stringy and uneven...which is understandable because its been with her for her whole life!

and you thought Ike was a disaster

I got my hair cut....

ugh. I hate getting my hair cut. Ever since the mushroom hair disaster of 7th grade I've hated it. But my hair was too long and it was time. I decided to take advantage of having someone to take care of my kids and take the plunge while I was here.

I always try and give conservative estimates on how much I want taken off. I usually give a number of inches well under the amount I really want. I know these people supposedly went to hair school, but all of them seem to have missed the chapter of curly hair shrinkage. So I gave this lady "4 inches off" and "I want it to still be considered long" and the classic "I want to still be able to put it in a ponytail." Before she cut she made a line with her finger on my back of how long it would be.

None of my demands were met. I hate it. Serves me right for getting my haircut by strangers twice a year for $11.

My hair is now under strict demand to grow.

faffles for dinner

Last night Kate asked for faffles for dinner...

and what Kate wants, Kate gets....even though she's pooped her pants the last 2 days. WOW, she has one nice mom!! (really, I just didn't have any better ideas for dinner)
Kate loves to help me cook and she helped me stir in all the ingredients for the waffles with surprisingly little mess! Then I was making the syrup and she was asking to bring her chair over and help me. I was telling her "no, its too hot!" but then I let her bring it over to the counter next to the stove. I was stirring and telling her all about how hot it was and not to touch and all that over and over. Once it started to boil I turned the burner off and then brought it to the other front burner to add the flavoring. As I filled the teaspoon, about to dump it in, Kate says "I want to help!" and leans over and goes to put her hand RIGHT ON THE HOT BURNER!!! She may not understand how hot it is, but her mama sure has good reflexes because I jumped and threw the teaspoon in the air and maple flavor went everywhere and grabbed her hand. I'm pretty sure I stopped her and she didn't get burned, but she was a little startled. (I can't really blame her!) As she was crying I asked her if she got hurt and she held up one finger. It didn't look red or anything but I gave her some ice and sat her at the table and finished dinner. I cut up her waffle for her and gave it to her and then I saw her eating like this:

One finger on the ice the whole time! It was pretty darn funny!
Here are some random pictures of Kate and Sawyer hanging out on Kate's bed
and the other day I was looking at different blogs and I found one with short hair hairstyles and this was the first post on there. So Kate and I had fun this morning playing with her hair!

Kinda a funny do, but it was nice to have a bit of a change! Can't wait for it to grow so I can venture more into this fun hairstyle frontier!
