Pumpkins

To celebrate my birthday we spent a Saturday at our favorite local farm where we picked pumpkins, bought apples, and went through the corn maze.  Kate picked her pumpkin out pretty fast and Clara was happy to take a ride and pick the pumpkin mommy picked for her, but Sawyer took his job really seriously and spent a lot of time finding the perfect pumpkin.  It was a beautiful fall day and a great way to spend my birthday!

Closer to Halloween we carved the pumpkins.  I made Clara an Elmo pumpkin, which she got excited about after I explained to her what it was.  The kids had fun choosing designs out of the books you can buy and carving them out mostly on their own.

Halloween 2013

This year Kate decided she wanted to be a mermaid for halloween so we thought it would be fun to have a family theme.  I decided Kate would be a fish and that just left Sawyer to decide.  It was a  hard decision for him but he knew he didn't want to be a lobster, a crab or a shark (all ideas mommy had seen that were cute) and he finally set his mind on being a blue spotted stingray. Do you know what that is?  I didn't think anyone else would either when they saw him walking down the street.  So we thought some more and he finally decided he wanted to be a dolphin.  And he is the cutest dolphin ever, he likes to put his costume on and jump around like he is diving like a dolphin and he even makes a really funny dolphin noise.  When Clara sees him doing that it looks like too much fun so she ends up jumping and swimming with him too.  They sure are a cute pair.  Kate's mermaid costume is a little different than most I've seen but I love it.  And they love all matching as a family!

Halloween costumes 2012

Better late than never, right?!
I finally was able to take some good pictures of my kid's in their costumes.

When I was debating what we were going to do this year I was trying to think of a good group costume, but I also wanted to leave it up to the kids. We finally decided on costumes everyone was excited about. Here we go.....presenting..... Little Bo Peep and one of her lost sheep!

I asked Sawyer what he wanted to be and his first ideas were on the girlie side...kitty, bunny, etc.  Out of the blue he suggested a snowy owl (I think we had read about them in a few books recently) and I thought it was the cutest idea ever.  I loved how excited about his costume he was.  The only thing was...I'm pretty sure he thought we he put it on he would actually be able to fly.  He was a little disappointed but still loved it!  And I think he's the cutest snowy owl ever.Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket\ Photobucket IMG_7151e

IMG_7153e The kid's school doesn't do anything for Halloween...isn't that a bummer? So we celebrated that evening by going over to our friend's house for a yummy chili dinner and witches brew and then a little trick or treating. We don't live in a good trick or treating area so it was nice to have a good place to go. And everything is more fun with friends!

Halloween Festivities

We celebrated Halloween twice. The first was the church trunk or treat that was on the Saturday before (which also just so happened to be my due date!) Since no baby stuff was happening, we went to the church and had a good time. We ended up having a big snow storm that night so instead of using our trunks we set up in the different classrooms. I was pretty exhausted so I was happy to sit in a chair and hand out candy while Daddy took the kids around to collect candy. I also think my exhaustion contributed to the lack of picture taking. I did dress up though! PhotobucketPhotobucket
(This picture was really hard for me to post! 40 weeks pregnant....LOVELY!)
Earlier that day we also carved pumpkins and I have the funniest video of Sawyer pulling some guts out of the pumpkin, shuddering, and then saying he needed to wash his hands. He is not a down and dirty type of boy! But he loved drawing his face on and I cut it out exactly as he planned.

After the big snow storm Saturday night the kids went out and played in the snow Sunday morning. Last year when we moved here Sawyer was totally not into the snow but he was loving it, making snow angels and sledding down our hill. They even made a pumpkin head snow man!

On Monday night we went over to a friend's house for dinner and then trick or treating in their cute little town of Wilder, Vermont. Lots of cute houses. We don't live in a neighborhood and it was fun to be walking around in one, especially one with such cute older houses. The kids LOVED trick or treating, especially Sawyer. He was walking around with a big smile on his face, singing the theme song to Jake and the Neverland Pirates and saying over and over, "This is so much fun!" They were happy to get candy and we went door to door until their energy was gone. It was also our first cold trick or treating experience. People still recognized Kate as Rapunzel but Sawyer refused to put a coat on. He kept saying, "I will NEVER wear a coat!" Eventually he put some gloves on his frozen little hands. Poor stubborn boy. He is just in denial of how cold it gets here.

Kate - Halloween 2011

Photobucket
We decided Kate was going to be Rapunzel from Tangled for Halloween as we were walking outside the theater the first time we saw it....last year! I LOVE this movie. It makes me laugh and cry. every. single. time. We have the soundtrack and we sing it at the top of our lungs together. Despite the fact that Sawyer knows all of Flynn Rider's words in "I See the Light", I couldn't talk him into being Flynn. (That is okay, though, he makes a cute Jake!)

And this girl is one GORGEOUS Rapunzel!

Sawyer - Halloween 2011

Do you know who Jake is? I wonder how many people do. A while ago I thought I had Sawyer convinced to dress up in a coordinating costume to Kate's...until he decided he wanted to be Jake and there was no looking back! He was SO excited to be Jake. The problem was, when people ask him what he's going to be for Halloween, he will happily say, "Jake!" Then I see the question mark in their eyes and I have to explain it every time. So if you don't know Jake, here he is:

Its a cute little show and Sawyer is semi obsessed. And here is Sawyer as Jake:

He makes one cute Jake!
