preschool

I taught preschool at our house this week and on Tuesday Ryan was home from work and Kate was home from school so we had a few extra hands! Because Ryan was home I told the mom's to bring snow gear for the kids so they could play outside while Clara and I stayed warm inside. I think Kate loved being a part of Sawyer's preschool for a day and she did everything we did.

We were learning about colors so I made up squirt bottles filled with water and a tiny bit of food coloring and they had fun coloring the snow. They also went sledding on our tiny little hill. It wasn't too long until they were cold and ready to come in though! I'm glad I got a picture, don't kids in snow gear look so adorable?

Preschool

Today was Kate's first day of preschool. There are 3 other friends in her "class" and she had so much fun. It seems to me that it is going to be perfect for us....a little socialization and a little learning.

To mark her big milestone of starting school, I decided to write down Kate's current talents and favorite things...mostly because I was putting a list together for Sawyer (coming soon) so I had it on my brain.

- everything she sees is, "I'll tink I'll get that for my birthday!" I've tried to tell her Christmas is closer but she doesn't understand
- she loves helping her brother do things and tries to lift him up and down from things. she's actually pretty good at it but its funny to watch because she really isn't that much bigger than Sawyer!
- I love hearing, "come on, Sawyer!" It means they are playing well together. And I'm lucky because they usually are.
- I've started telling Kate "I love you more than peanut butter." and it is fun to hear the responses I get. My favorites are, "I love you more than butter." and "I love you more than popcorn."
- we talked about having a garden one day when we have a house and so, on a daily basis, I hear, "when we have a big house with a garden, I tink we'll grow carrots." tonight she asked, "can you grown gum in a garden?"
-she loves to help me do everything so I feel like I always have to sneak around doing things (like cleaning the bathrooms) so she won't hear me and beg me to help. It wouldn't be so bad if her help actually...you know....helped.
- we had a good friend go to Disneyworld and it has made me want to take my kids so bad. we're planning on going right after Ryan graduates and I told Kate so. now she always talks about going to Mickey Mouse's house and draws pictures and says they are for Mickey Mouse.
- she sings along with the Mickey Mouse clubhouse theme song, the Wordworld theme song, and I've caught her saying, "Its time to play...family feud!" along with the TV. I promise we don't just sit around watching TV all day!
- she is a serious, stay within the lines colorer. she really always has been...ever since she picked up the pencil in her little left hand and held it in perfect form to show me she is 100% a lefty.
- she knows all her letters and just today she put together her entire letter puzzle saying the letter, the sound it makes, and a word that starts with that letter. I think she is a genius and she definitely gets it from me....although Ryan would disagree.
- she has been able to draw a "T" and an "E" really well for a while and so I've always drawn dots for her to trace "KA" and then she filled in the rest. Last month she surprised herself and drew a "K" for the first time! She was so proud of herself! Then I set to work on teaching her the A and they are always crooked. (see the pictures up at the top....and the really crooked A? That is the one she did all by herself!) Now when she writes her whole name it totally curves upward.
- Kate loves to sing everything
- She really has come out of her shell a lot and is a lot less timid than she once was
- she is such a good, smart, funny girl and I am so lucky to be her Mama!
