Christmas 2008

Christmas morning the kids woke up around 7 so we got everyone else up and headed over to the Christmas tree. Since we've gotten older, we've started slowly unwrapping presents and enjoying seeing what everyone else got. We kind of started that this year but there was no stopping the kids so it was kind of just a free for all. A joyous, chaotic free for all.

Sawyer loved all the hustle and bustle and watching his sister unwrap presents. Then I would hand him one and he would instantly start eating it.

Sawyer got a stuffed lion that is like Kate's Charlie horse, squishy blocks, a car, a few books, and some cute clothes from Grammie that included overalls.

He thought it was the best Christmas he has ever had.

Kate dove right in to her presents and was really excited about all of them. I was so excited for Christmas this year because it was the first year Kate *got* it. We unwrapped her present from her cousin Shaylie first....and if I had known how awesome it was going to be I would have saved it for last! She got an "Abby Dabby" (Abbey Cadabbey) doll, Tinkerbell stamps and comb (the pink stamp on her hand) and princess chapsticks. She was in heaven. After that it was open a present, apply chapstick, repeat.

Kate got a new pair of black crocs (they discontinued brown and I was SO sad!), a "nurse anesthetist kit" and scrubs, Sleeping Beauty and Madagascar movies, Tinkerbell movie from Grandma Kissell, Pretty Pretty Princess, Princess memory, a bucket full of play food, books, and other random things.

Her stocking loot...Princess slippers, sunglasses, lots of candy and, of course, more chapstick!
After all the presents were opened and we dug into our stockings, we ate breakfast. Yummy breakfast casserole and cinnamon rolls.

lip gloss break
(it was SO hard for me to get any pictures of her doing anything that didn't involve chapstick and lipgloss...which are 2 different things and need applied often. I knew she was going to love them, but I had no idea that it would be this much!)

After breakfast we headed over to Nana's house to visit. We got the kids dressed up in their matching Christmas outifts and took some picture by Nana's Christmas tree. Kate was still preoccupied with her chapstick (now in a purse Dani gave her)
Its hard to get a good picture of the 3 of them.

After that we came home and cooked, played and had fun.

We had a yummy Christmas ham dinner with all of our family plus Nana. It was beautiful and yummy.
and lastly, yet another attempt at a cherry pie. It has become my family's favorite ever since I started trying to make Ryan's mom's "recipe". I've learned to call it Not-Your-Mama's cherry pie so I don't have any high expectations.
I thought it was yummy.

It was such a beautiful Christmas and so fun to see kids happy, play games with family, and just enjoy each others company.

Christmas Eve 2008

Townsend Family Traditions

Olive Garden for Christmas Eve dinner

We decided to bring back an old family tradition of actually acting out the nativity...we said it was for Kate's sake...but I think everyone had a lot of fun doing it. Especially Ryan and Michael who were getting into Sheep/Donkey wars the whole time.

Angel Kate
our 3 wise men
our nativity scene
Our favorite Christmas tradition....MATCHING PAJAMAS!!

Ryan enjoying the wassil he made himself. This will probably be a new tradition.
Mom didn't get a lot of Christmas decorations out since she was so busy with the wedding, so we finally got the nativity out.
Milk and cookies for Santa. After we went upstairs to go to bed, Kate said, "Santa is going to eat his cookies all gone and then put his plate away."
And then it was off to bed with visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads...

Zoo Christmas lights

They had a Santa beside the hippo area...kinda a ghetto Santa I think...but when we went to get the boy's picture taken with the mall Santa earlier in the week the line was CRAZY so we left. We had them matchy matchy so we decided to give it a try.

Ethan wasn't a fan....

Kate LOVES zoo kettlecorn

In the zoo parking lot they had a little train that drove in 2 big circles that had Christmas lights all over it. Kate loved it...but I don't know why she looks like a statue in this picture

In N Out afterwards.

Gingerbread cookies

Gingerbread cookies are one of my many favorite Christmas cookies and the season wouldn't have been complete without a yummy batch.

Kate took her frosting job very seriously and actually did a really good job!

Chuck E Cheese? ugh, I'm so sick of Chuck E Cheese...

Name the show...

Yesterday we went to Chuck E Cheese and had a lot of fun. Last time Kate went it was her birthday and she was exhausted. She was a little older and a little less tired this time and had lots of fun. Here are some of the pictures...Ethan's not crazy about this....can you tell?Dani and Jared racing
