Easter 2013
We had a terrific Easter with our terrific friends...despite the fact that the weather was less than terrific. Although there was sun, so that was something. Check out all the snow we still have though. I am so ready for Spring. Or to move to South Carolina.
I got home from Washington on Tuesday and still hadn't finished the kids outfits but I put the finishing touches on them Saturday night and the kids were excited about them. Its so fun to have them match and I'm hoping they let me make them matching clothes forever.
The Easter bunny was good to the kids, bringing unpainted birdhouses (just what Sawyer wanted) and Sawyer got a bug catcher just like the one he got for Christmas but it broke already.
We have afternoon church so we got together with some friends for an Easter brunch and egg hunt. I fit a little photo session in too but it is just so exhausting trying to get a picture of all 3. As you can see I got 1 kind of good picture of Clara, 2 of Sawyer and about a million of Kate. I hope that doesn't give them a complex when they grow up.
After we were stuffed to the brim with yummy brunch foods we headed to church for a really nice Easter Sunday. The kids sang "If the Savior Stood Beside Me" in Sacrament meeting and that is always adorable.
After church we came home and had ham, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans with the rolls that always remind me of my mom that I had made the night before. It was delicious and perfect.
After the kids were finally in bed and I surveyed the extent of the Easter baskets and eggs and colored grass mess all over the place I thought about what a big mess holidays can be. And so much work. But it is worth it to see them get so excited about things and we had so many moments over the past few days where we could talk about the reason why we celebrate Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On Monday after Easter we had a wonderful Family Home Evening where I talked about the trip to Washington I had just taken for my Grandpa's funeral and I showed them pictures of him and we talked about how handsome he was, and I told them some of the stories I had heard about him and they couldn't get over how he didn't look like a grandpa in the pictures (because I was showing him lots of pictures from when he was younger). Then we talked about how I saw his body when I was at the funeral and I knew that his spirit wasn't there anymore but that it was with his loved ones in heaven. And that it was a wonderful, happy place and a wonderful, happy reunion and that someday (a long long time from now) we would all be in heaven together and I would introduce them to Grandpa Townsend. And that because of Jesus Christ's atonement we can choose to live a righteous life and all live together again with our resurrected bodies. It was a lovely reminder of the Easter season. I am grateful to know these things and that I can share them with my family.

Church Easter egg hunt on Saturday (Clara thought it was too windy and was only interested in the sucker she found...and Sawyer found a ski helmet in a giveaway pile that we are so excited to put to use next year in his Kindergarten ski program!)
