Terrible 2's
Today my little boy turned 2 and it is amazing to see the difference between how excited a 4 year old is for her birthday and how oblivious a 2 year old is. He did enjoy opening a few presents though!
Here is a summary of Sawyer at 2
- When it is time for Sawyer to get dressed it is time for major drama. He cares what he wears and he won't put anything on unless he approves it. It doesn't work to give him 2 options and have him pick one, he has to roam around and mess up the drawer on his tiptoes until he finds the outfit.
- Same goes for pajamas at night and we are finding that he really dislikes ones with long sleeves. Too bad that is just about all we have! We're going to be cutting off sleeves real soon.
- He says the funniest words and most are repeats from Kate. He says "mm mm mmmmm" and "heeeeeeey" and an excited "ohhhhh!". I also hear "stuck" more times in a day than I can count. The other day I was telling Kate something and I said, "okay?" and Sawyer said "okay!" and I had to do a double take because it sounded just like Kate.
- Sawyer will put his hands to his face in fists and giggle when he is really excited about something
- When he sees his dad putting on his belt while getting dressed, he gets a big smile on his face and runs to catch hold of the bottom of it. We really have no idea where this came from.
- He is a daredevil in the pool and will just jump in without hesitation. He has mastered the floaties and will jump in with no one catching him, go under the water, and come up all by himself. He then lays there with every muscle in his body flexed, just floating. (occasionally he does kick just like his big sister!)
- Sawyer is a lot more brave than Kate in social situations. He will easily run up to someone and give them a five and he marches into the gym nursery without any hesitation.
- He will sit on the couch and say "show" and will watch with full attention. He likes the same as Kate: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Sesame Street and Word World
- On occasion you will find Sawyer walking around in dresses when he's playing dress up with his sister, with one index finger painted with nail polish, or wearing a headband out in public. There really is no stopping him when he sets his mind to something and he just loves to do everything Kate does.
- When I ask a "Who wants to...." question ("like who wants to eat lunch?") he will raise his hand up and say, "meeeeeeeeee!"
- When I ask him, "Where is my baby?" he points to himself
-Sawyer seems to always have a bump on his forehead. He has always bounced back easily from falls, usually I just have to tell him to brush it off. The other day he was walking by my hope chest and tripped and ran head first into it with the biggest "thud!" I've ever heard. It amazes me how much he hits his head!
- If Sawyer sees the dishwasher open he will try and push it closed, even if you are in the process of emptying it
- He has decided on his own that naps are totally over rated. I try and try and try but most days he won't nap. If he does, then he has a hard time going to bed at night. Kate gave hers up around 2 also so I guess I just have non-napping kids past 2!
- Sawyer is usually willing to give me squeezes or kisses when I ask him
- He is really interested in friend's babies and will gently share toys with them, especially if he sees them crying
- I get compliments on Sawyer's eyes almost anywhere I go
- Sawyer loves to color just like his big sister
- At preschool the other day the kids were tracing "W"'s and all of a sudden my friend said, "Kristen, he just made one!" I would really like to declare him a genius but I just really think he's a master impersonator of his sister.
- Sawyer loves preschool. When we sing our first song, "Where is Sawyer? Where is Sawyer? Here I am!" He will wave the entire time. He also loves to put the letters, shapes and colors up on the wall. Did I mention this preschool isn't really for him but for Kate and her friends?
It amazes me to see the difference between boys and girls. Sawyer is all boy (when you take out the dress up clothes and headbands). He is tough but sweet, just like a little boy should be! I am so lucky to be this terrible 2 year old's mama!

You have to love 2! He looks so grown up I can't believe it. We miss Houston and all of our friends! And we really miss all our friends talents! I wish we could make a trip to Houston for a photo shot. Our only option is JC Penny. Happy Birthday Kate and Sawyer!
OMG the getting dressed part makes me crack up bc I am having the exact same issue with Talan! He fights me everyday when I put pants on him, pulling them down as I try to pull them up say "NO, ELMO" He is on an elmo kick and only wants to wear elmo clothes and shoes...he has a million hand me downs from his brother and I have to keep rotating the same 2 or 3 outfits with elmo on them....and the same with the shoes! Aren't they funny?!! I say everymorning as I'm rushing to get ready and get out the door, "that's it, Im not gonna let you run my life, you're wearing this whether you like it or not" then I find myself giving in bc I don't want to hear the crying at 6 am!!!
I sure miss working with you so we could share stories like this more often!
